Journey To The DP World Tour

Early Life & Introduction to Golf

Born in 1995, Corrie Du Plooy grew up in Delmas, a small farming town about an hour east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Raised in a conservative family of police officers and farmers, Corrie discovered golf at age nine—not through his own family, but thanks to his friend’s father who invited him to the golf course. That day marked the beginning of his lifelong passion for the sport.

Dedication and Self-Taught Development

From a young age, Corrie threw himself into learning golf, practicing every chance he could get. He worked odd jobs during his teenage years to save up for his first set of clubs, which he bought from his friend's father for 100 Rand (about $5 USD). His job as a caddy at the local golf course provided valuable after-hours practice, allowing him to sharpen his skills and deepen his understanding of the game.

Corrie’s approach was entirely self-taught; he never received formal instruction. While he admires Jack Nicklaus, he credits Ben Hogan and Moe Norman as the most important influences on his technique. In his early twenties, Corrie dedicated himself to focused research and relentless practice, drawing inspiration from these masters. As his driving distance increased and his short-game accuracy sharpened, his performance began to attract attention at his club.

Discovery of Coaching Talent

During his caddy days, Corrie realized he had a knack for coaching. He started by giving casual advice to golfers, and soon club members actively sought out his guidance. His reputation grew, leading to invitations to play in club tournaments and eventually launching his coaching career.

Coaching Career and Philosophy

Corrie’s coaching success spread by word-of-mouth as he began offering instruction at other clubs in the Johannesburg area—and even internationally, traveling as far as Dallas, Texas to teach. He believes the best way to help his students is to keep things simple, breaking down complex golf concepts into easy-to-understand techniques. Corrie’s methods may be unconventional, but his priority is always to build his students’ confidence and ensure they enjoy the learning process. He emphasizes fairway distance and short game accuracy as keys to improvement.

Path to the DP World Tour

After years of rising through increasingly competitive ranks, Corrie earned the chance to attend the DP World Tour Qualifying School. Now poised to secure his Tour Card, he is ready to compete with the world’s best. “I’ve worked my whole life for this. I always strive to be the best I can be. I feed on the pressure to perform. I am ready for this.”—Corrie Du Plooy
